Congresswoman Ann Wagner has expressed her support following the House's approval of the Federal Judiciary Stabilization Act. This legislative move is aimed at addressing longstanding issues within the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, among others.
Wagner emphasized the importance of converting a temporary judgeship in Missouri to a permanent one. "The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri has had a temporary judgeship for decades, and this judgeship was set to expire in 2025," she stated. She further noted that making this position permanent would bring certainty to the region.
Highlighting her role in advocating for this change, Wagner said, "I was pleased to champion this bipartisan legislation and lead this effort to convert numerous temporary judgeships around the country, including in our very own Eastern District of Missouri, to permanent status."
The congresswoman pointed out that increasing caseloads at district courts necessitate such measures. "Caseloads at District Courts have continued to rise, and it would not serve the cause of justice to allow these judgeships to expire and further burden the system," she remarked.
Wagner concluded by underscoring how this legislation will benefit local communities: "This legislation will ensure our Eastern District of Missouri Court can better protect our communities and ensure criminals are brought to justice in a timely manner."
