In Washington, D.C., the House of Representatives has passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The legislation mandates that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same medical care as any other newborn. Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO), who sponsored the bill, expressed gratitude for its passage, emphasizing the need to provide lifesaving care to these vulnerable infants.

Congresswoman Wagner stated, “I am so grateful the House passed my vital legislation to ensure babies who survive an abortion are afforded lifesaving medical care.” She added that it is essential to treat all babies as "miracles of life."

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) remarked on the moral implications of the bill: “Babies born alive after an attempted abortion have a right to lifesaving medical care no matter the circumstances of their birth.” He criticized Senate Democrats for blocking consideration of this bill and urged swift action in the Senate.

Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) accused Democrats of having extreme positions on this issue, stating, “Democrats don’t want born-alive babies to get life-saving medical care. This is insane.”

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) highlighted her ongoing support for the act over several Congresses and expressed disappointment with Senate Democrats’ opposition. She reiterated her commitment to pushing for President Trump's approval.

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, praised Rep. Wagner and other leaders for their efforts in advancing this legislation. He emphasized its role in mitigating child abuse by ensuring proper medical care for survivors.

Penny Nance from Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee supported providing medical care to infants born alive after abortions, while Melissa Ohden from Abortion Survivors Network stressed the importance of informing policymakers about failed abortions.

Hon. Marilyn Musgrave from Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America called on Senators Lankford and Banks for their leadership in introducing this bill in the Senate alongside Rep. Wagner's efforts in the House.

The bill outlines specific requirements for healthcare practitioners present at live births during or after attempted abortions, including providing necessary care and reporting violations to law enforcement authorities. It also offers civil actions against abortionists while protecting mothers from prosecution.
