Qatar has announced its decision to expel Hamas operatives from its territory, following diplomatic efforts led by Congresswoman Ann Wagner. Wagner, who serves as the Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been actively involved in pushing for this change.

"For too long, Qatar has sheltered Hamas terrorists who seek to destroy Israel," stated Wagner. She highlighted her efforts in introducing bipartisan and bicameral legislation aimed at reevaluating Qatar's status as a major non-NATO ally if it failed to act against Hamas. The legislation was intended to pressure Qatar into taking decisive action to bring hostages home by expelling all Hamas operatives.

Wagner emphasized that despite previous failures by Qatar to negotiate with Hamas for the release of Israeli and American hostages, the current development marks a significant shift. "It is crystal clear that Hamas is not a good-faith negotiator and must never receive shelter from partners of the United States," she said.

As part of her role on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Wagner participated in a Congressional delegation visit to the Middle East, including Qatar. During this visit, she engaged directly with Qatari officials, stressing that harboring Hamas was unacceptable.

"I appreciate that the United States and Qatar have recognized that the brutal terrorists of Hamas are not interested in ending the war in Gaza," Wagner remarked. She described this move as "a major victory for U.S. diplomacy and for Israel."

The decision signifies an important moment in U.S.-Qatar relations concerning regional security issues.
