Congresswoman Ann Wagner of Missouri announced her support for the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Wagner emphasized that this legislative move is aimed at preventing what she described as "the largest tax increase in American history." According to Wagner, the bill will allow Americans to retain more of their earnings by avoiding taxes on tips and overtime, enhancing tax relief for seniors on Social Security, increasing Child Tax Credits for families, and providing tax certainty for small businesses.
Wagner criticized House Democrats for opposing the bill, stating they voted "to raise taxes on all Americans and block a $10,000 pay raise for the typical American family."
The congresswoman also highlighted measures within the bill intended to strengthen Medicaid. These include implementing work requirements for able-bodied adults and restricting illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid services. She stressed that these steps are designed to protect vulnerable groups such as expectant mothers, children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, Wagner pointed out that the legislation aims to secure national borders and bolster national security through investments in law enforcement and armed forces. The bill also seeks to reduce living costs by promoting domestic energy production.
A notable aspect of the bill is its provision for compensation related to radiation exposure affecting Missourians through an expansion of RECA (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act). Wagner expressed pride in advocating for this particular element of the legislation.
She concluded by characterizing the One Big Beautiful Bill as supportive of growth, workers, families, businesses, and aligning with America First principles.
